Origami

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

Another activity I spent time on this summer to help focus my mind was an old pastime of mine: origami. As a young child, I practiced origami nearly every art class in my local primary school. From jumping frogs, flowers, and fortune tellers, to birds, butterflies and boxes, I learned to fold many shapes. This summer, in addition to several of my familiar favorite shapes, I picked my “animal spirit” to fold – a wolf. I’m someone who works better in a group or a “pack”. I think growing up in a family with four brothers has made me like this. I tend to be able to work well with others and not get too frustrated.

While my freeform wolf didn't turn out how I expected it to, it was unique, and I had never attempted to fold that shape before. Out of all the activities I did this summer to relax and focus my mind, this was one of my favorites because I felt creative and it brought back good memories.
